Vera Fortson is a family, wedding, and documentary-style photographer based in Dawsonville, GA and Bozeman, Montana. Her speciality is capturing authentic portraits and storytelling moments with a natural, nostalgic feel. The North Georgia mountains are home, but she travels for life’s most precious moments nationwide.

If you’re a mother, sister, wife (or soon to be wife), there’s so much we share. We care deeply, love endlessly, and wear our hearts on our sleeve when it comes to our families.

it’s not one pose fits all

Hear me when I say, I'm not a cookie-cutter photographer. I want to take beautiful photographs of your family, of course, but I want to highlight the beauty and authenticity of you and your loved ones. I don't want to put you in a box and copy and paste you into the frame. I want what makes your family shine to set you apart from the other families I've worked with.

As it should. Because, otherwise, what's the point? I don't want - and you don't want - your pictures to be the same as what you've simply seen before. You want to experience and remember what and how the photo makes you feel. You want that for your family, here and now, with pictures that fill your heart and summarizes this chapter. I know that's your heart because that's also mine.

And to begin sharing my heart, here's a little about me: I believe in quality over quantity, slowing down in this fast pace world, drinking strong and creamy coffee, baking homemade bread, building magna tile creations with my son, sipping red wine on date nights with my husband, the feel of the sun on my skin no matter the season, driving across the country versus flying, wearing my cowboy boots at the barn and to church (after a good cleaning, of course), reading stories at bedtime, and it's my greatest desire to follow after Jesus Christ and love others well.

Vera was amazing to work with. She was incredibly professional, flexible, and SO talented. From the booking, payment, photo session, and follow up, everything was so simple. Working with her is effortless! Vera was also able to manage a HUGE list of requirements with ease (13 people, multiple families, the pressure of Christmas card photos, children, etc.). We got beautiful posed shots of our family, but the candid shots stole the show. She made the photo session fun! …We will cherish these photos for years to come! Book her ASAP!

Family is everything. Those three words by themselves don’t mean much but strung together they are one of the most important lessons learned in life. Capturing family, the true heart and spirit of family, takes a certain gift and a creative eye to truly be authentic. Vera has this gift in spades. Our Mommy and Me session was incredibly easy because it wasn’t forced. Being able to interact with my child while he showed his personality and was allowed to explore and cuddle and giggle with me was the most wonderful experience. Vera made us both incredibly comfortable and relaxed and her gentle and patient personality made everything that much better. But the images… I was in tears over every picture because what she captured was so beautiful and tender. I’ll treasure these for my whole life because this age is so fleeting and I feel like she stopped time for me in a time I so desperately want to hold on to. We can’t wait to do more sessions with her in the future and my husband is excited to step in front of her camera with us next!
